The construction of the Radisson RED Hotel and Radisson RED Apartments buildings, part of the multifunctional UNITY CENTRE complex in Krakow, has been completed. Starting from June 26th, guests can book stays at the four-star hotel and apartment complex of the renowned Radisson network. The entities involved in the project are Horizon (design project author), GD&K Consulting (project manager), G2J Consulting (cost manager and site supervisor), and RE-Bau (general contractor).
New Experiences at UNITY CENTRE
The newly opened Radisson RED Hotel and Radisson RED Apartments have enriched the portfolio of UNITY CENTRE, which previously offered rental of “AA” class office spaces and commercial units in a prestigious location. Now, the complex strengthens its position by offering guests 229 exclusive rooms and 46 fully-equipped apartments. The rich accommodation offer includes superior rooms with balconies, corner and junior suites, and a presidential suite. Hotel guests can also enjoy the Italian restaurant Filini and a conference floor of approximately 300 square meters.
Radisson RED: Art and Interior Comfort
Radisson RED is a brand renowned for its bold design and emphasis on unique aesthetic experiences. The interiors of the new properties are dominated by shades of red, grey, and black, which, combined with olive accents and American walnut wood elements, create a unique space.
“The interiors are adorned with local details in the brand’s distinctive style, such as graphics depicting Krakow motifs and a sculpture of the Wawel dragon in a RED interpretation.” – explains Kamil Kowalik, the interior concept author and project coordinator from GD&K Consulting.
A standout feature of the hotel, capturing attention from the moment guests enter the lobby, is the atrium space that extends to the full height of the building, equipped with panoramic elevators and a spectacular light installation comprising 170 openwork lamps.
Technical and Implementation Challenges
The implementation of the investment was based on continuing the construction of existing structures, which were in a closed shell state, and adapting them to the standards set by the Radisson RED brand and the design guidelines.
“Despite carefully conducting inventories of the buildings in terms of their technical and visual condition, as well as analysing the as-built documentation, numerous implementation challenges arose. The response to these challenges was both effective cooperation amongst the participants in the process and the flexible and constructive approach of the Investor.” – summarises Alicja Maziarz, Cost Management Director at G2J Consulting, which provided cost control and multidisciplinary investor supervision services.
Another significant challenge was organising the construction site in a way that would not disrupt the operations of the other facilities within the UNITY CENTRE complex.
The History of UNITY CENTRE
The Radisson RED Hotel and Radisson RED Apartments are adjacent to the tallest office building in Krakow—UNITY Tower (102.5 meters). The construction of the skyscraper began in 1975, but after four years, work was suspended for economic reasons. The structure remained unfinished for forty-five years, earning the nickname “Szkieletor” amongst Krakow residents. Construction was finally resumed in 2020, and the tower achieved its promised splendour, simultaneously becoming the heart of the luxurious, multifunctional business complex.
